PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

 

REFUGEE EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

Goals:  Reduction in barriers to employment, atainment of long-term employment, and reduction in dependence on public assistance

Eligibility:  Refugee/asylee status, receiving public assistance, living in the US less than one year

Services:  Case management, job counseling, job skills training, Job Club Class, employment placement and retention services

Partners:  Somali Community Resettlement Services

 MINNESOTA FAMILY INVESTMENT PROGRAM & DIVERSIONARY WORK PROGRAM

Goals:  Increased work income with a reduction in dependence on public assistance

Eligibility:  Olmsted County employees refer MN public assistance recipients to IMAA for employment services

Services:  Case management, job counseling, transportation and child care support, and employment placement and retention services

 VICTIM SERVICES

Goals:  Victim advocacy and support, assistance with navigation of the criminal justice system, and assistance in obtaining safe living condition, restitution, and healing

Eligibility: Any resident of Olmsted county who is the victim of any type of crime (citizen or non-citizen)

Services:  Case management, crisis intervention, advocacy, assistance with navigation through the criminal justice and court systems, assistance with paperwork, and referrals to appropriate community resources

REFUGEE SOCIAL SERVICES

Goals:  Stable housing and independent living skills, engagement and participation in the community, achievement of permanent resident status, and ultimately, citizenship

Eligibility:  Refugee/asylee status, receiving public assistance, living in the US less than one year

Services:  Case management, Community Connections class, referrals to available resources, and immigration legal assistance

Partners:  Somali Community Resettlement Services and Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services

REFUGEE STUDENT GRANT

Goals:  Improved academic achievement and leadership skills, emotional/mental well-being, healthy living adjustment, and maintenance or growth in parent/family relationships and functioning

Eligibility:  Students with refugee/asylee status who are enrolled in Rochester Public Schools and have lived in the US less than 5 years

Services:  Rochester Public Schools identifies eligible students and provides intensive intervention services.  IMAA provides case management for students and facilitates the involvement of parents in the program

Partners:  Rochester Public Schools

CAREER PROGRAM

Goals:  Reduction in barriers to employment and/or employment retention or current job advancement

Eligibility:  Refugee/asylee status/immigrant status which allows for US employment (but not a current US citizen)

Services:  Case management, job counseling, job skills training, transportation support, and employment placement and retention services

Partners: LifeTrack Resources Inc.

 COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER (CHW) PROGRAM

Goals:  Reductions in barriers to adequate healthcare and health insurance, improved management/coordination of chronic illnesses, and reduction in overall healthcare costs

Eligibility:  No requirements for assistance with health insurance.  Mayo Employee and Community Health participants must be referred to IMAA by Mayo Clinic

Services:  Culturally appropriate assistance in  obtaining health insurance, assessment of barriers to chronic disease management, health education including appropriate healthcare access, connecting patients with resources which help overcome barriers to care, follow-up with clients to monitor progress toward healthcare  goals

Partners:  Mayo Clinic

 INTERPRETING AND TRANSLATING

Goals:  Accurate, prompt, and cost-effective interpreting and translating, equal access to services, information, and resources to anyone in the community regardless of language

Eligibility:  Anyone with limited English fluency

Services:  Oral interpretation (in person or via phone), written translation, and interpreter skills training.  Services provided in over 40 languages

CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING ASSISTANCE FOR ROCHESTER COMMUNITY

Goals: Improved community understanding among different racial/cultural/ethnic groups, respectful dialogue within the Rochester Community, and improved community relationships and engagement

Eligibility:  Anyone in the community can make a request for assistance as needed
